How to Add Vinyl to Chalkboard

Sharing is caring!

For the second day of Christmas Crafting, I have a super easy Christmas Tree ornament project. Here’s how to add vinyl to chalkboard for an ornament.

This project could not be any easier. It’s simply adding some vinyl to a chalkboard tag, thereby creating the quickest and easiest ornament you have ever made. Sometimes it’s really nice to have an easy project. Something can be said about doing a project that gives you instant success.

Supplies Needed to Add Vinyl to Chalkboard

  • some sort of chalkboard item – a sign, ornament, etc. – check out craft stores like Michaels for chalkboard ornaments. They may not be an actual “ornament” per se. I got chalkboard tags that I turned into an ornament. It even had a twine hanger already! I’ve even found cheaper (meaning thinner) chalkboard signs at the dollar store. Sometimes it’s just chalkboard on cardstock or thin wood.
  • permanent adhesive vinyl; removable vinyl would work too – as long as no one picks at it, which is highly unlikely. I like to use white vinyl on chalkboard.
  • graphic design
  • something to cut the vinyl – I use my Cricut Maker
  • optional: embellishments like jingle bells or greenery or berries or ribbon.

Could this project be any quicker or easier? I think I literally spent more time trying to figure out a graphic design! I love the simplicity of this design.

This is the perfect project for a group activity, or for when you need to whip up some quick ornaments. They would also make the best gift tags too! Use these to label stockings that you don’t want to add heat transfer vinyl to. The possibilities are endless!

I found some larger chalkboard items at Michaels. Check out this countdown to Christmas sign that I made.
